The 2021 Yukon 10K Road Race Championships were held on the F.H. Collins Secondary School track and Millennium Trail, starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

This was the first live in-person championship event held by Athletics Yukon since the pandemic began.

Participants started the race just outside the northwest gate to the track on the service road.

Runners headed across the Robert Campbell Bridge, along the Millennium Trail in front of the SS Klondike, around the Robert Service Campground, over the Rotary Centennial Bridge, and back along the Millennium Trail to the track.

Participants entered the track at the northwest gate and circled the track heading south.

They finished their first lap at the finish line on the track, then headed out for a second lap of the same course.

Their 10 kilometres were completed when they crossed the finish line a second time.

Regardless of the distance runners recorded on their personal GPS devices, the course is a measured 10,000-metre distance.

A total of 15 runners from 10 to 71 took part in the event.

A brisk wind from the south made the open section along the river wall between the SS Klondike and the eagles’ nest a challenge, but otherwise conditions for the race were good.

Please see below for race results.

Athletics Yukon have the 5K Road Race Championships and the Cross Country Championships scheduled for September. Other races are scheduled later in August.

The dates and times of all events are posted on the Athletics Yukon website https://athleticsyukon.ca in the events calendar.
