In the top of the table clash between Air North Rangers and Klondike Business Solutions, Air North showed why they will win the league this year, when they put in a thoroughly professional performance to top KBS 3-2 in over 35’s soccer action.

KBS started well and got an early lead, which they kept until half time.

Gordy Barker and John Macphail were in excellent form as they were able to deny Air North any real shooting oppotunities, and when Mark Sebek added his second goal for KBS it seemed that Air North would suffer a rare loss.

The Blue Machine then kicked into gear forcing KBS back into a total defensive strategy which inevitably ended with goals for Air North. Will Chetchuti, Ciaran Connolly and Myles Dolphin all scored as the tiring KBS defense were unable to contain the threat that the Rangers posed as they had to give up their dreams of winning the league this year.

Ten goal thriller ends even

One of the best games of the season saw Yukon Brewing tie Driving Force 5-5 in an action packed 50 minutes. Both teams had leads that they failed to keep, because of the intent and desire to score from the  team that was trailing. The final result was a fair reflection of the effort that both teams put in. Driving Force were able to score free flowing goals that most players in the team played a part. The best being a goal by Greg Grady which was swept in after the ball had been moved the length of the field with some slick passing.

For Yukon Brewing, there were more elements of individual skill, especially from Dale Cheeseman, whose first goal was a thing of beauty. His double step over fooled the Driving Force defence before he rifled the ball into the back of the net.

Miles Hume two and Justin Carre got the Yukon Brewing goals, while Mark Chandler, Phil Jackson two and Hector Lang scored for Driving Force.

Captains grab all the goals

If you can’t rely on your captain, who can you rely on? That was what the players were saying after the game as Pepsi and Yukon Info.com drew 2-2 in the final game of the day. Danny Macdonald who is known as a sharpshooter got two for Yukon Info, while Mark O Brien is better known as a defensive hatchet man, managed to get the ball past the keeper twice, as pigs were seen flying over the Canada Games Centre.

If Mark O Brien is the answer, the question must be who do you not expect to score? But O Brien scored two very nice goals as he dragged his team back from the brink.

The game was going Yukon Info’s way, as they had a lot of possession and looked a real danger when Macdonald had the ball at his feet, but the Brew found a way back into the game as Info stepped off the gas, and O Brien was on hand to deliver the hammer blow that sealed them a share of the points.
