Notwithstanding Tuesday night’s snowfall, the Yukon government’s 41 roadside campgrounds will open for the season Friday.
For backcountry campers, a new online registration system is ready to use starting today for those planning to camp at one of three backcountry campgrounds in Tombstone Park later this season.
Up-to-date campground information is available on the “Campground Availability” page on the Environment Yukon website (http://www.env.gov.yk.ca) or by calling 667-5648 during regular business hours.
Yukoners and visitors can choose among 1,055 campsites across most of the territory.
Daily camping is still $12 a night, for one trailer or tent on a site.
Annual camping permits are $50 a year for Yukon residents, and free for those aged 65-plus.
Roadside campground sites are available on a first-come first-served basis.
Sites may not be “reserved” for campers who have not yet arrived.
Firewood is free but supplies are limited – campers should take only what they need and keep fires small.
