We are thrilled to have you see and experience the website re-design we’ve spent more than six months working on. Here is a quick guide to what’s new and changed with our site.
Homepage
The most dramatic change to the website is the homepage. We researched and analyzed how people use our homepage and the result is a completely new layout that adheres to these patterns. Our aim is to showcase all of the latest stories and information in an easy to read and visually pleasing design, with a clear separation of free vs. paid, subscribers-only content.
News, Sports, Letters, Opinions and Classifieds
Near the top of your screen is a navigation bar that gives quick access to our main sections.
Story comments
A brand new feature is comments: any story in our archive is available to be publicly commented on. We look forward to the lively discussions that will ensue from our readers having a distinct voice of their own. Please read our policy for more information on comments.
Archive calendar
It is now extremely easy to browse through our archives; a collection of stories and media that currently date back to 2006. We’ll be adding earlier years as the weeks go by. Head to News, Sports, Letters or Opinions and an archive calendar will allow you to flip through stories by day, month and year.
Improved search
We know that a fast, accurate search engine is very important to our website visitors. To meet this demand, we have have located a search box at the top of your screen with results distinctly labeled with a free or paid, subscribers-only content icon. News, Sports, Letters and Opinions are fully searchable.
Subscriber-only content
As before, our website includes archival content that requires a paid subscription to access. Other benefits to a subscription include classified section downloads and a plethora of special new features we’ll be rolling out over the next few months. Stay tuned to our blog for these announcements.
Email story or blog post
Think a particular story or blog post will be interesting to a friend or colleague? You can now easily send them an email message with direct link intact.
Weather report
For those of you who like to keep an eye on Whitehorse weather, we’ve included a real-time report that automatically updates every 10 minutes.
RSS feed
If you like to use RSS the feeds for our website are available at http://whitehorsestar.com/rss. A headline, brief summary and link back to our website for the full article are included in each feed.
