Five Whitehorse Glacier Bears swimmers put their skills to the test at the Age Group Nationals, which was held in Calgary this past weekend.

Alexandra Gabor, Bronwyn Pasloski, Tanner Cassidy, Spencer Sumanik and Brice Harding made up the Yukon contingent at the event.

The group may have been smaller than other clubs attending the meet, but that didn’t stop them from accumulating the medals, winning an impressive eight in total to finish in 26th place. There were around 130 swim clubs at the event.

This meet features participants in competition against swimmers their own age from across the country.

All eight medals were won by Gabor and Pasloski, but the boys also performed very well at the meet, achieving a number of personal best times.

Gabor got the Glacier Bears off on the right track on Friday, winning the club’s first medal, which was a bronze in the 50-m freestyle with her time of 27.13. She competed in the 15-year-old girls category.

Gabor continued her success on day two, winning the gold medal in the 400-m freestyle event with a time of 4:19.39. Pasloski also had an outstanding showing on day two winning the 16-18 girls final. Her time was 32.63.

Day three saw Gabor post the best time for all age categories on the women’s side.

She won the gold medal in 2:02.38 in the 15 year old girls final. Pasloski also struck gold again, winning with a time of 1:11:42.

Pasloski won all three breaststroke events, which included the 50-m, 100-m and 200-m distances. Gabor added a silver to her collection, which came in the 100-m freestyle. Her time was 58.34.
