The bats on the Terrorizers were in full swing Tuesday night in the Whitehorse Co-Ed Slo-Pitch Softball League.

Despite playing shorthanded, the group avenged a first-half loss to the Faro Flames, winning 20-5 at the Pepsi Softball Centre’s Diamond Two.

“I think this was probably our best games of the season, so far,” said Charles McLeod, head coach of the Terrorizers. “Our team is starting to come through, we’re playing for each other and playing with each other as well.”

With the victory, the Terrorizers improved its second half record to 4-1 in Division Two and equaled its win total in the opening half of season when it went 4-6.

Tuesday’s victory also helped the team bounce back after losing by more than 10 runs to Dave’s Cleaning Crew this past Thursday.

A couple of home runs highlighted the opening half of the first inning for the Terrorizers. Travis Friesen got the ball rolling, hitting an in-the-park home run in the top half of the first inning, before Joe Vigneau belted a two-run shot over the left field fence.

The Faro Flames also made the most of their first time at the plate, bringing home Adam Sipple, who hit a triple. The score after the first inning was 3-1.

Vigneau was back to work in the third inning and drove his second homer of the game to give the Terrorizers a 6-1 lead.

The Terrorizers added four more runs before the inning was over and took a commanding nine run lead into the bottom half of the third.

Faro also had a productive third inning, but still found itself trailing by six runs heading into the fourth.

Five more runs were scored by the Terrorizers in both the fifth and sixth innings.

However, it could have been even more in the sixth had it not been for a spectacular play made by Faro’s second baseman Neil Talsma.

Talsma made a jumping catch on a liner shot hit by Terrorizer’s pitcher Jason Costinak and then had the presence of mind to touch second, doubling up Vigneau, who wasn’t able to get back in time. The play was so nice that it drew cheers from both benches.

“I missed that, was it nice?” Vigneau joked as he walked back to his bench.

The game ended a half inning later after Costinak fielded a ground ball and then ran it to first base for the final out.

This was the Terrorizers final game before the annual Dustball Tournament, which begins on Thursday.

McLeod said he feels pretty good about his team’s play heading into Dustball.

“I think we are pretty excited actually,” he said. “We have a lot of good people on our team. Once you have confidence in your team I think that changes your team to something to look forward to bringing to Dustball.”

McLeod said he hopes the Terrorizers win whatever division they end up playing in for Dustball.

“Everyone is starting to hit the way they are supposed to and the way they want to as well,” he said. “Everybody is having fun playing the game and what more could you really ask for when everyone is enjoying themselves too?”
