After a five-year hiatus, the 100-mile Silver Sled race will return in 2014.

The scenic sled dog and skijor race runs from Haines Junction to Silver City and back on the southern shore of Kluane Lake.

The race will be held next year on the same weekend as the Sportsman, Chili Paw, and Frank and Josie Sias junior race.

The announcement was made following last weekend’s races in Haines Junction.

Armin Johnson won the seven-mile Sportsman race Saturday, taking the title in a time of 29:03.

Jess Wood rebounded from her last Twister race – which she did not finish – finishing second in a time of 32:20, while Aaron Nicholson placed third in 37:08.

Meanwhile, Alexandra Rochet won the 20-mile Chili Paw in 1:22:52, and Luc Tweddell finished second in 1:23:25. Skijorer Adam Robinson placed third in 1:24:34.

Quest mushers Normand Casavant and Rob Cooke finished sixth and eighth respectively.

In total, 23 mushers and skijorers competed.
