Lawyers for both Christina Asp and the prosecution met briefly Tuesday in Yukon Supreme Court to pick the date for the hearing, now set for Oct. 3 to 5.

Asp was convicted in June of the murder of Gordon Seybold. His body was found in the charred remains of his Ibex Valley cabin, which burned to the ground March 26, 2008.

A conviction for second-degree murder means a life sentence for Asp — 25 years in prison.

The only question to be left up to the judge is how many years she will spend in custody before she is eligible to apply for parole.

Asp was convicted by a jury following a three-month trial.

One of the jury members was in the courtroom for Wednesday’s hearing.

Asp was not present. Her lawyer, Ken Tessovitch, attended over the phone.

Justice Ron Veale ordered a Gladue report, which gives judges the chance to look at the background and history of aboriginal offenders.
