But things are back on track.

As society president Richard Jamieson explained this morning, a separation in the rail near Rotary Peace Park took its toll on the waterfront trolley at around 4 p.m.

The trolley, carrying about five people, travelled about five feet off the track.

No one was hurt in the minor derailment.

It’s unknown yet what caused it, though Jamieson commented it may have been a rotten rail tie.

Officials are looking into the cause, and the trolley is ending its route at the Visitor Information Centre until the last part of the track is fixed.

Jamieson praised RC Cranes & Construction, which has worked with the society in the past, for coming so quickly to help get the trolley back on the track and running again between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Friday.

The costs associated with the derailment remain unknown.

The society’s Facebook page notes the trolley won’t be running today so maintenance can be done, but should be back on the rails tomorrow.
