Kilrich keeps on winning: hockey roundup

Kilrich strengthened its hold on first place in the Whitehorse Oldtimer Hockey League with a 4-3 win over the Firth Rangers Sunday night.

Kilrich strengthened its hold on first place in the Whitehorse Oldtimer Hockey League with a 4-3 win over the Firth Rangers Sunday night.

With the win, Kilrich improved to 9-3 on the year, four points up on second-place Tim Hortons.

Brian Gudmundson led the way with two goals, while Rick Gingell and Elgin Schwantz each had two assists.

Dean Mckay and Mike Knutson rounded out the scoring.

Mike Rispin and Greg Charlie each had a goal and an assist for Firth, as they tried their best to upset the league’s top team.

Gary Vantell also scored, while Darnell Kiriak picked up two assists.

Tim Hortons 7, Yukon Inn 2

Blayne Monahan and Morley Lessard each had a pair of goals and assists as Tim Hortons kept pace with Kilrich on Sunday.

Doug Terry added a goal and assist, while singles from Phil Borgel and Dave Bakica rounded out the scoring.

Brent Stokes set up four goals, and Bruce Milligan assisted on three.

Gord Campbell scored twice for Yukon Inn in the loss.

In oldtimer action Nov. 8:

Kilrich 4, Medicine Chest 3

The league’s leading scorer figured in on all four goals as Kilrich edged Medicine Chest.

Walt Liley scored twice and added two assists to push his season points total to 27.

Mike Knutson added a goal and an assist, while Peter Grundmanis rounded out the scoring. Regis St. Pierre also had two assists.

Ron Billingsley had a pair of goals for Medicine Chest, and Mike Jim also scored.

Klondyke Dental Molars 6, AON Flames 1

It was a points bonanza for the Molars in a blowout win.

Brian Boorse scored twice, Ed van Randen and Andy Brickner each had a goal and two assists, Greg Bull and Gerry Rivest both scored and assisted, and Charles Brodhagen picked up three helpers in the win.

Alfred Feldman had the Flames’ lone tally.

In women’s hockey action from Wednesday:

Green Beasts 4, Black Ice 2

Led by Laura Grieve’s two goals and assist, the Green Beasts finally found their way back to the win column.

Beasts’ leading scorer Christine Kirk also had a pair of goals – her seventh and eighth on the year.

Scoring for Black Ice were Jules MacMillan and Jonnie-Lyn Kushniruk.

Blue Rodeo 3, Red Dragon 3

Blue’s top scorer Stephanie Hedley’s two goals were not enough to beat the league’s top team.

Coralie Ullyett also scored and Candice MacEachen had two assists in the draw.

Danielle Hodgson scored twice for Red Dragon, and Nicole Peterson also struck.

In action from last Tuesday:

White Snake 2, Black Ice 1

Sarah Lewis and Kylie Bird scored to lead White Snake over Black Ice.

Vanessa Bogaert replied in the loss.
