COURT TIME – Megan Timmons, Alysha Gullison and Tayler Mitchell competed in the girls division at Better Bodies Cross Training Centre’s Apres Boo Tournament (top). AT THE TOP – Logan Harris and Graydon McDonnell placed first and second in Junior B at the Apres Boo Tournament.

Whitehorse’s squash players battled it out on the courts at the Apres Boo Tournament held at Better Bodies Cross Training Centre last weekend.

Squash pro Marie Desmarais says the games were great matches to take in.

“A lot of them went to five, those were really exciting,” she said.

First place in the open category was won by Cameron Grandy, a player Desmarais says is fairly new to open match play.

“Cam did really well, that was a good win for him,” said Desmarais. “It was a really good one for him.”

Grandy’s win highlights the newer player. Desmarais says tournaments often give newer or lesser experienced players a great chance to get a win or close to it.

“Tournaments are great, because you don’t necessarily have to be a great player,” she said.

Desmarais left with a group of junior players Wednesday for a tournament in Edmonton.

The Whitehorse group will join about 180 players for the Jester Tournament.

Desmarais is optimistic the juniors will do well at the tournament, even facing tough competition.

“They’re pretty strong down there,” she said. “We’re expecting some wins as well.”

After the Jester’s Tournament, Better Bodies will host the Reservoir Dogs tournament on Nov. 27 and 28.
