POLE REPLACED – Crews work on replacing a power pole between Second and Third avenues behind The Fruit Stand this morning.
This morning’s downtown Whitehorse power outage occurred when a motorist struck a power pole in the alley north of Black Street, behind The Fruit Stand.
Laura Carlson, a spokeswoman for Yukon Electrical Co. Ltd., said the outage occurred at 8:45. Power to most customers was restored by 9:02.
The outage, Carlson said, affected some but not all customers from Main Street to Black Street, depending on the line they are serviced by.
“There were 625 customers out so it was a fairly dense area,” she said. “There were some customers and portions of Main Street that were out.”
Carlson said late this morning a section between Second and Third avenues on Black Street was still out, but was expected to be back on by 1 p.m., once the crew had finished replacing the power pole.
