Hawes, Storey finish on top at Mount Sima alpine races

Abby Hawes posted the fastest time in the giant slalom event at Saturday’s Yukon Cup hosted by Alpine Yukon at Mount Sima.

Abby Hawes posted the fastest time in the giant slalom event at Saturday’s Yukon Cup hosted by Alpine Yukon at Mount Sima.

Hawes ran the course in a time of 56.64 seconds, narrowly edging out the second fastest time posted by Josie Storey, who was a slim 1.77 seconds behind.

Charlie Hawes had the third fastest time of the day at 59.19.

A total of 37 skiers in a variety of age categories signed up for the giant slalom event.

The course was placed on Dan’s Descent, and was 135 metres long with a vertical drop of 135 metres.

There were 16 skiers registered for Sunday’s slalom event, with Storey recording the overall fastest time of 53.67.

Also set up on Dan’s Descent, the slalom course was slightly shorter at 105 metres in length, with a vertical drop of 110 metres.

Each skier in each competition skied the course twice, with officials using their fastest of the two runs to place the skiers.
