After 18 years on the lam, Dudley Taylor appeared in courtroom five of the Whitehorse courthouse Tuesday.
Taylor is charged with three counts of sexual assault against young children. The man was living in Whitehorse when the alleged offences occurred in 1990.
The proceedings against him only ever went as far as a preliminary hearing, before Taylor, released on $1,000 bail, disappeared.
He was located in Washington state, living under his brother Dwayne’s name. He was arrested by U.S. Federal Marshals in September and extradited back to Canada.
He arrived in Whitehorse under police guard early Tuesday morning.
A charge of escape and being at large will likely be added to his list of offences.
Before running away to the United States, Taylor had elected to have his case heard by a Yukon Supreme Court judge alone, as opposed to being heard by a jury of his peers.
He will next be in court on Dec. 2, when a date for his trial will be set.
