A Teslin education assistant charged with possession of child pornography has been released on bail.
John Cafferata, 54, was released on a number of conditions, including that he post $50,000 in security.
Of that, $15,000 needs to be cash deposited with the court and the other $35,000 posted but not deposited as security.
The accused is also required to inform the RCMP anytime he arrives in or leaves Teslin, according to court documents.
Cafferata lives in the nearby cottage lots just north of Teslin on the Alaska Highway, along the shore of Teslin Lake.
The longtime assistant at the Teslin School is prohibited from attending schools, pools, playgrounds, day-cares or any other area where one could expect to find persons under 14.
Cafferata must not be in the company of anyone 14 and under unless he’s accompanied by an adult who’s been approved by the court.
The accused man is also prohibited from possessing any computer or electronic communication device or cell phone, and must not access the Internet for any reason.
He is scheduled to appear again in territorial court Sept. 26.
Cafferata was of two Yukoners charged last week with possession of child pornography. He is charged with possessing a collection of printed and digital images, as well as written material describing violent sexual assaults on children.
Also charged last week was Brian George Nowazek, 60.
Nowazek is charged with possessing still images and videos of children engaged in sexual acts.
He is also accused of several offences relating to the illegal possession and storage of firearms, including possession of two sub-machine guns, which are prohibited weapons in Canada.
Nowazek remains in jail pending a bail hearing next week.
