A house was lost to fire early this morning in Carmacks, and the village has put out an appeal for donations to help the victims.

Dave Acker and Elsie Davies, longstanding residents of Carmacks, lost all of their belongings.

Davies and their dogs were unharmed, while Acker was out of the territory for medical reasons.

Mayor Elaine Wyatt said early this afternoon she is unsure if the family has insurance, adding they really do need any assistance people can offer.

The community, she said, is pulling together as best it can.

Any donations for the family can be dropped off at the Village of Carmacks offices, Carmacks Health and Social Services, or the Association of Yukon Communities offices in the Horwoods Mall in Whitehorse.

Do you have a TD account set up for Dave and Elsie?

A fire is a terrible thing. But why alway Carmacks? Bad luck? I’m sorry, I’m not trying to be rude or disrespect the victims here.  Whitehorse hasn’t even had that number of lost homes. Is it electrical? There never seems to be an explanation for what caused the fire. As I said, I wouldn’t wish a fire on my worst enemy. But every time you turn around, another fire claims a house. And 4/5 it’s in Carmacks. Why? In such a small village, it seems by the time the fire dept gets to the scene, it’s always a 100% loss. Please correct me if I’m wrong on anything. I’m just asking questions on something I would like some more info on.

I don’t know if there is an account for the two of them, but I am accepting donations on Elsie and Dave’s behalf. FOR more info please call 633-5570. I am challenging all citizens to look through their stuff and donate. As they have lost everything. Let’s show the world how we take care of our own!
