Whitehorse speedskater Heather Clarke called her results at the Canadian Junior Short Track Championships a “mixed bag.”

The 19-year-old competed in the 500-, 1,000- and 1,500-metre races last weekend in Montreal, finishing 18th overall. Her top race was the 1,000-metre, where she finished 14th.

“Overall, I am happy with my races in Montreal,” Clarke told the Star. “I really enjoyed racing, which is something I forget to do sometimes when I get wrapped up in a high-level competition.

“I had a mixed bag of races ... some were not so good, and others were great,” she added. “I had some pretty big improvements from my last competition that I have been struggling with for a long time.”

Clarke said she is determined to continue working on her craft in Calgary next month at Winterfest – a Western Canada meet. In March, she will skate at the national team trials in Richmond, B.C.
