Broadway On Ice production a smash hit

Hundreds of figure skating fans were treated to a spectacular show Saturday, as the Arctic Edge Skating Club staged Broadway On Ice at Takhini Arena.

Hundreds of figure skating fans were treated to a spectacular show Saturday, as the Arctic Edge Skating Club staged Broadway On Ice at Takhini Arena.

Skaters performed routines to a variety of Broadway musical classics ranging from the Lion King to Grease to Mamma Mia.

Showings were held at 2 and 7 p.m.

Skaters from all levels participated, including CanSkate, Early Academy, StarSkate, Competitive and Special Olympics. The Faro CanSkate program was also involved.

“We hadn’t done an ice show like this for a couple of years,” said Arctic Edge coach Charlene Donald. “The kids missed it and they really wanted to do it again.”

A volunteer committee was set up to organize the event, and Donald said they did a great job in both planning and soliciting donations from the business community.

“This was a big commitment for everyone,” she said. “But it was great. We had a really good turnout, and it all came together.”

Nearly $850 was raised for the Whitehorse Food Bank, alongside 24 boxes of food.

More than $1,000 was raised via the silent auction and lobby sales to support future programs.

Publicity director Stacey Hays called the support “phenomenal.”
