A 24-year-old Whitehorse man found alive in a snowbank Saturday morning died later at Whitehorse General Hospital.

Whitehorse RCMP Const. Dean Hoogland said today an individual walking the trails near McLean Lake contacted the RCMP at 10 a.m. about a man in need of assistance.

The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.

RCMP and city bylaw officers reached the scene by snowmachines at 10:59 a.m. and moved the man out to emergency response personnel waiting at the road with their ambulance.

The man was responsive and able to answer questions when officers first arrived, Hoogland said.

He said the cause of death is unknown, as is whether alcohol was a factor.

“The coroner has ordered an autopsy and the results from that will let us know,” Hoogland said.

He said the man had been at somebody’s residence earlier, but where he was headed is not known.

A 33-year-old Whitehorse man was found dead Jan. 13 on a walking trail along the south side of Two Mile Hill.
