A cross-country tour saw Yukon orienteers cash in on a gold rush at the Canadian Orienteering Championships.

Nationals took place in three Maritime provinces this month: New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.

The events were part of the Maritime Orienteering Festival, which included an event held on the ocean floor at Hopewell Rocks.

Yukoners earned 15 top-three finishes at Canadians, including 11 golds.

The mid-distance championships in Hillsborough, N.B., Aug. 16 saw Yukoners collect four gold medals, courtesy of Brent Langbakk (male over-35), Nesta Leduc (female over-80), Pia Blake (female 17-20) and Leif Blake (male 17-20).

The subsequent sprint championships at the University of P.E.I. in Charlottetown Aug. 20 saw Langbakk and Leduc again strike gold, alongside a win by Sabine Schweiger in the women’s over-45 category.

Other top-three finishes came from Phineas Pearson, who nabbed silver in the beginner category and Barbara Scheck, who took second in the women’s over-55 division. Pia Blake also earned silver.

The long-distance event took place last Saturday in Wentworth, N.S.

Langbakk, Leduc, Scheck and Leif Blake each took gold in their respective categories, while Forest Pearson earned a hard-fought silver while competing in the men’s 21-34 category.

So very very proud of my awesome sister-in-law Nesta Leduc. You make growing/getting older something to look forward too
