Bob Walker and company swept up a sweet victory last weekend.

The wiley veteran and his team of curling recruits earned victory at the 2016 Ashley’s Furniture Sportsman’s Bonspiel.

Sixteen teams participated, filling all eight sheets of ice at the Whitehorse Curling Club. The event took place Saturday and Sunday.

Walker’s rink also included skip Tyler Williams, third Brayden Klassen and second Dale Enzenauer.

“Bob and Tyler normally curl together and they needed another guy,” Klassen said. “It was tons of fun.”

Klassen recently served as skip for the territory’s men’s team at junior nationals.

Walker’s team went unbeaten through all five games, racking up 52 points via the event’s alternate scoring system.

Each rink played a minimum of five six-end games with a scoring system that saw teams take two points for winning an end, or one for losing it.

The runner-up team included Matt Johnson, Daryl Sturko, Matt Gibson and Derek McDougall. They finished with 48 points.

The rink of Mike Massie, Al Hisop and Mike Nugent finished third.

Yukon Premier Darrell Pasloski was one of the many competitors, playing lead for Craig Tuton’s rink.

His team finished seventh.
