Tri Omni sets league’s record with third-straight championship

Tri Omni players established themselves as a true force in the Whitehorse Filipino basketball league by winning their third consecutive championship Sunday.

Tri Omni players established themselves as a true force in the Whitehorse Filipino basketball league by winning their third consecutive championship Sunday.

It’s the first time in the 11-year history of the under-35 league that a team has won three in a row, though it was just two points that separated Tri Omni from Earls Restaurant at the buzzer.

Rj Siosan led Trio Omni to the 101-99 victory with 37 points along with six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Siosan was selected as the playoff MVP and named to the First Mythical team, along with teammates Jon Patrick Rumbaoa who hit for 27 points in the final and Ian New who added 15 but also recorded 11 rebounds.

Tri Omni won the first of the best-of-three championship 100-92 the previous Sunday.

Also named to the First Mythical team was Bryan Hermosa of Earls Restaurant and Jomarie Pahilanga of Dave’s Cleaning Services, the bronze medal winners.

Hermosa led the silver medalists with 41 points in the final, along with 13 rebounds, two assists and four steals. Ralph Hermosa hit for 17 points and recorded nine rebounds while teammate Tonio Deleon scored 15 points.

Bryan Hermosa was named the league’s MVP.

Dave’s Cleaning took home the bronze with Sunday’s 122-117 victory over Kit’s Kitchen, with Patrick Tesoro scoring a team-high 37 points while Pahilanga added 34 and James Punong bayan recorded 19.

Fourth-place Kit’s put up a fight despite having only three players to battle in the bronze medal match. Gian Gonzalo led Kit’s with 47 points and 21 rebounds. Rex Javar hit for 37 and grabbed 7 rebounds and Rey Matic scored 33 and had 10 rebounds.

Christian Robas and JB New of Kit’s Kitchen were named to the Second Mythical team, along with Dave’s Tesoro, Earls Marcven Mabilog and EJ New from The Brick.
