The Yukon Horse and Rider Association’s 35th annual Horse Show was a rousing success at its new location last weekend.

Show manager Mary Jane Warshawski said 60 riders took part in the three-day event, which included gymkhana, hunter, reining, jumping, trail and western competitions.

For the first time, the show took place on the new showgrounds located on the estate of the late Sharon Jensen, off Burma Road.

“It went super well,” Warshawski said. “The arena itself is lovely. I have to say Castle Rock Enterprises were very generous in helping us create this arena. It’s gorgeous.”

Warshawski said Jensen built the property with a specific vision in mind – one that would allow riders to compete year-round. The new indoor and outdoor facility are maintained by the newly-formed North Ridge Community Association.

Last weekend’s top rider was Brooke Nielsen, who won three awards atop her faithful steed, Blazon Kodiak.

Nielsen won the Hunter Equitation 2’9/3’0 adult division, the Western Yukon adult category, and the newly-introduced Cowboy Challenge.

Jetta Bilsky also impressed, winning both the Hunter Equitation 2’9/3’0 and 2’3/2’6 Jr. B events while riding Bobby McGee.

A dressage competition will take place this weekend.
