Nearly $60,000 was raised last weekend at the Yukon Hospital Foundation’s fourth annual Skookum Asphalt Charity Pro-Am Golf Tournament at Mountain View Golf Club.

Under continuous sunshine and a crosswind that kept players guessing, 105 players from Yukon, British Columbia and Alberta, 19 professional golfers from the Canadian Professional Golfers’ Association and a dozen volunteers enjoyed a day of great golf, food and competition.

Up against a strong field of golfers, Mountain View Golf Club juniors Parker Olson, Bryce Anderson and Riley Smoler, alongside professional Shaun Lundy – earned victory, taking home round-trip flights courtesy Air North.

Team Small’s Expediting – John Small, Jeff Hunter, Kevin Westin and professional Chris Hinton – were the runner-ups.

In third place were pro Scott Shepherd, Rick Demarinis, Joe Mason Sr. and Joe Mason Jr., representing TSL Contractors.

Reigning professional champion Chris Toth from Alberta’s Stony Plain Golf Course once again took top prize for the pros, shooting a 145.

Tyler Rumpel, representing Jagare Ridge Golf Club in Edmonton, placed second with a 147 and shooting 149 for a third-place tie were Kent Fukushima of the PGA Tour of Canada and event rookie Doug Morgan from The Redwoods Golf Course in Langley.

“We want to thank the signature sponsor, Skookum Asphalt, for their ongoing support, and all of the sponsors, players, volunteers and professionals that have helped make this tournament such a success over the past five years,” said Yukon Hospital Foundation president Krista Prochazka.

“More than $325,000 has been invested in Whitehorse General Hospital, thanks to this tournament.”

The Yukon Hospital Foundation was established in 2005 and invests in hospitals in the territory.
