A successful competitive swim meet in Victoria was capped with three record-setting performances by two 12-year-olds.

Alex Petriw set two new club marks, and Thomas Bakica added another, at the 2015 Xmas Cracker event, hosted by the Pacific Coast Swimming Club at Saanich Commonwealth Place Dec. 4 to 6.

Petriw’s record-setting times came in the 200 and 400 freestyle (2:25.68 and 5:15.93), while Bakica established his new club record in the 50 fly (35.09).

“Alex Petriw was a shining star this weekend, crashing his best times, racing in the finals every night, and breaking the club records,” head swim coach Malwina Bukszowana said in an email to the Star.

On Saturday, Petriw took third place overall in the 100 free A final.

On Sunday, Bakica took third in the 50 free A final.

In total, 18 Whitehorse Glacier Bear swimmers participated, with each athlete swimming nine races.

Some new names qualified for AA provincials, including 11-year-old Amelia Ford, who broke all of her best times.

Kassua Dreyer, 11, also qualified, as did 14-year-old Liam Diamond.

Not to be outdone, the Lindsay sisters also turned in strong swims.

Cassis Lindsay finished fourth in the 50 free A final Sunday, while earning a qualifying time in the 100 free for national age group championships.

Rennes Lindsay also added another event for the age group nationals, finishing sixth in the 400 IM.

She also improved her best time in the 1,500 free, and hopes to represent the territory at the open water nationals in July.
