Kilrich’s oldtimer hockey team has blazed out of the gates this season with five straight wins.

Kilrich beat the AON Flames 5-1 Sunday to stay ahead of the second place Air North Jets (4-0-1) in the Whitehorse Oldtimer Hockey League standings. Tonight, the two unbeaten clubs will square off at Takhini Arena.

Even without league-leading point-getter Guy Gorrell Sunday, Kilrich’s offence remained hot.

Mark Suominen scored twice, Briar Young had a goal and two assists, and both Brian Currie and Colin Nash notched a goal and assist en route to the club’s fifth win.

Meanwhile, Jeff Jensen was the only Flames player to beat Kilrich keeper Jeff Kalles.

Action continued last night at Takhini Arena, with Medicine Chest dropping the Rangers 5-3.

Shawn Kinsella scored twice – one shorthanded – with Jeff O’Farrell (2) and Ron Limoges adding the others for Medicine Chest.

Rangers sniper Jason Cunning (2) and Les Luciuk got pucks behind Medicine Chest goalie Eugene Johnson in the loss.

Also last night, Yukon Inn downed EDI 9-4, thanks to a four-point night from Greg Charlie, which included a hat trick.

Steve Smith and Ron Daub each put a pair of goals past EDI goalie Kyle Martsinkiw, with Adam Green and Ernie Jamieson adding the others. Curt Campbell had three assists in the win.

Pat Tobler scored twice for EDI, while Ed van Randen and Dave Ecker rounded out the scoring.

Rounding out Sunday’s games, Medicine Chest beat EDI 7-3, Air North downed the Klondyke Dental Molars 7-3, and Yukon Inn tied the Firth Rangers 3-3.
