Johnsons sweep podium as sprint series resumes

It was all about the Johnsons Sunday as the territory’s recreational mushing circuit resumed with a 13-mile sprint race.

It was all about the Johnsons Sunday as the territory’s recreational mushing circuit resumed with a 13-mile sprint race.

Behind his team of eight dogs, Armin Johnson won the mushing event at the Takhini Hot Pools with a brisk time of 45:19.

He was followed closely by Dave Johnson (45:44) and Mandy Johnson (46:44). Armin and Mandy Johnson are husband and wife, while Dave Johnson is not related.

Jerry Joinson, a Yukon Quest veteran, placed fourth in 49:52.

Other race categories saw Virginia Sarrazin win the 13-mile skijor event in 46:56 ahead of Katherine Sheepway, while another Yukon Quest veteran, Magnus Kaltenborn, skijored to the recreational five-mile title in 17:27.

Additionally, six youngsters took a turn on the sled runners.
