Bryn Hoffman and Bryce Chudak were all smiles today after logging another fourth-place finish on the ISU Junior Grand Prix circuit.

The duo wrapped up their latest competition in Torun, Poland, today, where they finished as the top Canadian pairing in fourth overall.

Hoffman and Chudak were nudged off the podium for the second straight time, however, beat out by three Russian pairs.

Ekaterina Borisova and Dmitry Sopot claimed gold with a final score of 158.82.

Amina Atakhanova and Ilia Spiridonov finished second with 149.52 points, while Anastasia Gubanova and Alexei Sintsov took third with 147.03.

The Canuck duo completed their long program today, landing a throw triple and throw triple loop to finish third with a career-high 91.84 points.

But when combined with yesterday’s short, Hoffman and Chudak would finish fourth overall with a personal-best points total of 142.33.

The two earned 50.49 points in their short – also good for third – a skate that featured a throw quad salchow and intricate step sequence.

But a brilliant free skate by Gubanova and Sintsov – ranked fourth after the short program – eventually pushed Hoffman and Chudak out of medal contention.

In total, 10 junior duos competed.

Hoffman, an 18-year-old figure skater from Whitehorse, said the event served as a breakthrough performance for the pair, who train under former national standouts Cody Hay and Annabelle Langlois in Calgary.

In an interview posted online today by the International Skating Union (ISU), Hoffman said she was fighting off her thoughts today, not just nerves.

“I was thinking a lot,” she admitted. “It was a fight for me.”

“We fought hard together,” added Chudak, a 20-year-old from Rocky Mountain House, Alta. “This one was really good. It was a big improvement from Colorado for sure.”

Fellow Canadian duo Hope McLean and Trennt Michaud finished sixth with 128.42 points.

Torun marked the fifth stop on the Junior Grand Prix circuit this season, and the second competition on tour for Hoffman and Chudak.

Earlier this month, they finished fourth in their inaugural international skate in Colorado Springs, Colo.

There, they scored 129.34 points.

Hoffman and Chudak have spent the last two seasons training out of Calalta Figure Skating Club in Calgary.

In Colorado, the two performed well enough to qualify for the ISU World Junior Championships, set for March 2016 in Hungary.
