The new old-timer soccer season opened in style Saturday.

The Whitehorse Rapids over-35 soccer league kicked off Saturday morning at the Canada Games Centre, with a cracking game between Pepsi and Klondike Business Solutions (KBS).

Two very talented teams slugged it out over a pulsating 50 minutes, with Pepsi coming out on top 6-4.

Pepsi got two goals from both Percy Fowler and skipper Phil Jackson and one apiece from David Strachan and deadly Doug Hitch, with braces from Kurt Bringsli and Danny Macdonald for KBS.

In the later game, Quest Computers showed their class with a professional display in beating a depleted Yukon Brewing 5-1.

Quest scorers were Keith Welch and John Macphail – each of whom got two – with Timothy Fawehinmi scoring the goal of the game whilst mesmerizing opposing defender Mark O’Brien like a snake charmer.

Rich Potter picked up a consolation marker for Yukon Brew.

Last season, KBS toppled Quest Computers 6-3 in the championship final, with Pepsi earning third.

Macdonald was named MVP, while Pierre-Luc Lafrance took home the golden boot award.

The four-team league has been active since 1999.
