Whitehorse hockey player Bryce Anderson is off to a fast start with his undefeated team in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL).

Anderson, 16, made the jump to the CSSHL this season after playing with the Valley West Hawks for the 2016-17 season in the B.C. Hockey Major Midget League.

He tallied seven goals and 20 assists in 37 games with the team.

So far this season in only nine games with the Yale Hockey Academy Lions, Anderson has six goals and 12 assists for 18 points.

“We’re off to a good start,” Anderson said of his team’s perfect 9-0 record in the early season.

Growing up playing for the Whitehorse Mustangs, Anderson made the move down to British Columbia in 2015 at the age of 14.

“It was tough at first not coming home to your family every day,” he said. “But you have to make that move.”

In the 2014-15 season with the Mustangs Bantam A team, Anderson tallied seven goals and 13 assists for 20 points.

The team went on to win gold at the B.C. hockey championships, the first team from the Yukon to do so.

Playing with Yale this season follows in the footsteps of Anderson’s longtime friend Dylan Cozens who was named to Team Canada for the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

The two grew up playing together, and against each other, with Cozens playing for the same Yale team last season.

Although not drafted in the Western Hockey League (WHL), Anderson was invited to the Moose Jaw Warriors training camp this season before heading off to Yale.

Anderson said the camp was a great experience in getting to play with highly-skilled players, some drafted into the NHL.
