Preparations for the 2015 Yukon Quest will begin in earnest on Saturday, when registration kicks off in both Whitehorse and Fairbanks.

The 1,600-kilometre international sled dog race will begin Feb. 7, 2015, running from Whitehorse to Fairbanks.

Sign-Up Day will take place at Shipyards Park this Saturday, from 1 to 3 p.m.

On top of the excitement of registration, the Quest will also be hosting Bark Fest at Shipyards Saturday – an event that will run from 10:30 to 4 and will include a variety of fun owner-pet competitions.

Alongside those events will be dog demonstrations, a dignitaries’ obstacle course, face painting, prizes and barbecue.

As part of their fund-raising efforts, the Quest will be hosting a golf tournament at Meadow Lakes Golf and Country Club Sept. 13.

The best-ball tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 2 p.m. and will be followed by dinner at 6.

Cost is $100 per person, which includes nine holes, one golf cart per foursome, as well as a steak dinner and dessert.

Interested players can register with Holly Smith at the Yukon Quest office.

The Quest has also announced a name change to their official starter program. It will now be known as “Quest Guest” following a naming competition held on Facebook.
