Senior athletes from across the Yukon gathered in Whitehorse Saturday to kick off the new ElderActive season.

With one part competition, and one part socializing, the fall tournament at the Canada Games Centre was a rousing success.

“We did have excellent attendance of over 100 people, including folks from Faro, Marsh Lake and Tagish,” said group spokesperson Spence Hill.

Prior to the weekend recreation, Premier Darrell Pasloski spoke to ElderActive Recreation Association (ERA) athletes assembled at the Elks Lodge in Whitehorse.

Preliminary discussion was also held regarding the Canada 55+ Games, which will be held in Brampton, Ont., Aug. 16 to 19, 2016.

An organizing committee was then formed.

Meanwhile, Hank Leender moves into the role of ERA president, while Tom Parlee will now serve as past president.

Additionally, Sue Meikle is on the national board of the Canada Senior Games Association.

The ERA is a Yukon organization that is grounded in an active living philosophy for seniors and elders. It seeks to enhance the lives of those aged 55 and older.
