Weekend saw police busy with 911 calls, traffic stops

It was a busy long weekend for Whitehorse RCMP.

By Rhiannon Russell on May 19, 2015

It was a busy long weekend for Whitehorse RCMP.

Police responded to 186 calls for service, conducted 68 traffic stops, laid 29 criminal charges and impounded nine motor vehicles.

In comparison, they responded to 100 calls for service the previous weekend.

The charges laid over the long weekend include assault, driving offences, theft and breaches of a court order. There were six impaired-driving arrests.

“While police responded to a lot of calls, most of them were dealt with through conflict resolution,” Cpl. Natasha Dunmall said this morning.

“Not every call results in someone being charged. The situation may just need to be defused with involved parties going their separate ways.”

Whitehorse RCMP also conducted 10 foot patrols over the weekend, with officers focusing on parks, the waterfront and the downtown area.

“Foot patrols are how we help stay connected to our community,” said Dunmall.

“People are more inclined to approach and speak to an officer without the barrier of a police vehicle.”

As a result, foot and bike patrols will continue over the summer, she said.

W of B..."I'm tired of Josey trying to be some combination of Ezra Levant and Ernest Hemingway."

Really? If you think I'm a troll as stated elsewhere I'm certain?
That line, was like enough sustenance to keep me fed under my bridge for a long spell...thanks.
WofB you may not believe me re: alleged "native probable" as you suggest.
I honestly do not care who is aiding in the decomposition of what in my view (you do not have to share..nor loathe) was once a really nice community.

Did we have a few issues years ago, like many years ago?
Yes of course we did, but often they were completely either manageable or "dealt" with...a few monsters sans...ethnicity irrelevant.
WofB I'm not going to get into the "I was here a long time ago debate" nor for the natives or myself when I arrived in any attempts to validate my points. Because an argument like that matters not who presents it...is total b**ls**t, you know it as do I.

Now WofB My "droning on" about shite to your points?
I only react to what I see where I see these spots of decay in our society via... the courts...
the general lawless like nature of said sty formerly known as Whitehorse...former cool town...where you could have some fun, be free..even have a few brews if one likes. but not 30, not being a doofus...causing carnage, go for a sled ride etc being generally ABLE to enjoy yourself in a reasonable level of peace.

Now IMHO WofB, we are this angry locked down closed community where often when ya say hi...you may get pepper sprayed.
Not just because it is me saying hi, but because virtually EVERYTHING about this place has morphed into some bizarre circus freak show where young girls are getting raped and murdered on our trails...HEAPS of folks dropping dead..just cuz? Heaps more going through the program etc.

Is it my fault or issue that our court docket reads as it does?
Gladue, I bleat lots about. Do you really think it is remotely cool to have several levels of alleged justice based on ones race..really?
Sorry WofB, I cannot nor will not come to terms with that one.

Much of what I go on about? Goes on an awful freaking LOT, and for total clarity?
My illustrating the goings on of things folks are to lazy/disinterested in paying attention too, is legit...factual...repeat offenders or cultures represented care not, only desire safety in my personal space and community.
If we had daily in "the news" white skinheads (redundant..making point) that went around gassed, beating the shite outta folks, stealing stuff, robbing, killing, etc... I ALSO would be wailing about that, HARD!
But you know what I would not be "able" to whine about? Gladue for Whitey...EVER!

Wofb in summary..this place is full of folks from all over the planet from EVERY culture, with everyone having one or many historical issues that may make them cranky, a tad withdrawn themselves, full of resentment for whatever, really wish vengeance, desire repatriation...I could go? Funny thing though, the folks are not running around doing all that stuff DAILY and being allowed excuses for shi**y social behavior. Whilst often the others, can you argue the facts? If so how?

Seems in your view WofB it is through the racism of lower expectations?
Mind Blower...I do not share that view. I give my fellow humans more credit than that and believe anyone is able to do any thing...and your damn "race" tone WTHE...has jack to do with it in my world.

In case you are like brain dead, not saying so...but "in case" I, Josey...loathe a world, with folks as you that suggest race restricts your abilities. In "the whines", I believe your race has nothing to do with ones ability to act civilized in a society to a reasonable manor..ignoring regular "human" issues.

Probably a few run on's, some crappy punctuation, certain a spelling error or two but how was that grammar Nazi's and warrior activists?
In the words of the grandfather of grunge, Mr Niel Young..."people picking up what I'm laying down"?

WestofBelfast - your summation of the tired soapbox rantings of these two ( and a very small handful of others ) is the most accurate and interesting comment on these boards. Everyone has a right to free speech ( however disjointed ) but the partisan rantings just get terminally tedious after months, nay years, of it. As you suggest, either throw your hat in to the ring and stand up for the vote and then do something about effecting the change that you both crave, or just give it a rest for a while. Peace !

Oh and by way of comment June, this story really didn't need one insofar as dragging FN's into it. Yes I came right out and said it when both you and Josey in your usual obtuse way, danced around what you really were saying. It's about traffic stops, impaired driving charges, and foot patrols. Without going out on a limb, there cannot be a story on a dead beaver around here without both of you using this forum as your personal soap box to aim your howitzers. Maybe both of you should run in the next election, rather than blame everything on FN or lefties or somebody else. I don't always disagree with you June but the negativity is palpable and frankly I'm tired of Josey trying to be some combination of Ezra Levant and Ernest Hemingway.

Hey June, I wish not to be too "personal"...but you go girl!
Loved your "Old Lady Park" comment.
Thank you June for defending folks, even those you are diametric to...to have a voice.
Heaps of LW zealots on these threads attempting to stifle dissenting opinions for the fear of "some" education and pesky factoids getting in the way.

'Oxygen friendly" oh gaaaawd did I love that June.
@ real Jim...you have an imposter here your post suggests?
If so, I got one too at the "other" paper...dang trolls!

June: I merely pointed out what I thought to be veiled threats by you and Josey and I'm surprised that the moderator allowed them. And you're upset with me making it personal...that's rich. I did not demean your opinion, but I am allowed to make a comment on the usual vitriol that you two spew. You write what you want and I'll write what I want.

WestofBelfast: You made no comment at all about the article, but rather chose to attempt to demean someone elses opinion. If you don't like what someone says, thumbs down it.. you don't have to try to make it personal.

Yeah, If the police weren't doing such a good job then we might have a city where crazy people are bludgeoning beavers to death, known crack houses are evicted with no charges laid, and teenage girls being murdered on walking trails.
Thank God that the RCMP are on top of things.

spatial Vs. situational I presume...grammar nazi?
SPATIAL... : relating to, occupying, or having the character of space.
purdy much goes for potential scumbags relating to the space which I (may be) occupying.

SITUATIONAL... : of, relating to, or appropriate to a situation.
until a "situation" presents itself, one best be aware spatially to avoid a situation from happening....grammar nazi.
were you not able to pick up what I'm putting down? Doubtful.

a wee poll....who thinks Josey cannot write, not if you think I'm a dick...but can I write. Do you get the points made?
Seems with the replies I get, nit picking on grammar...apparently are enough to undermine the points?
The vitriol doled out here would suggest despite my alleged ignorance of "proper english" my points cut to the bone.

Grammar Nazi...anything else I failed you in?

Ever thought of investing in a Thesaurus Josey? You might find that it eventually helps you compose a grammatically-correct sentence with the mangled vocabulary you seem to be burdened with.

June I must say I get no assurances of safety with the M fortress crews and their colleagues. Yes indeed there are several shiny apples left on the cart...but the cart devolved into a compost bin.
I do however get a real good sense of security with my spatial awareness, street smarts, and absolute resolve to ALWAYS have a place on this planet and breath in my lungs...or "personal responsibility" for my security.
If they were not here?
Be like living on any other reserve w/o cops.
and those folks you spoke of in your last line?

All inclusive and ethnicity aside, would be going back to their carbon origins.
off setting if you will my footprint in an effort to appease the greenies.

186 calls..that's a lot for such a little place and doesn't include those road checks..

I think the RCMP do a good job.. I think their response time could be improved on..but with a fully staffed police unit, and they still had over 200 recorded interviews..I shudder to think where most of us would be without them.

I know where the drunks and psychopaths would be.
