A series of meetings in April could give city council a better understanding of what issues are facing each neighbourhood in the city.

This morning, the city announced the schedule for a series of town hall meetings. The city is highlighting its goal “to improve understanding of the unique issues facing Whitehorse neighbourhoods.

“City council encourages citizens to come and share ideas and perspectives about municipal issues directly affecting them.”

Six meetings will be held throughout April, with all sessions set for 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The first one is set for April 4 in the cafeteria of Porter Creek Secondary School. It’s aimed at residents of Porter Creek, Kopper King, Raven’s Ridge, Crestview, Taylor and Kulan, MacPherson and Hidden Valley.

The following evening – April 5 – will focus on Riverdale and Long Lake. That session is booked for the gym at Christ the King Elementary School.

On April 6, residents of McIntyre, Hillcrest, Valleyview, Granger, Copper Ridge, Logan, Arkell, Ingram and Lobird are invited to the library at École Émilie-Tremblay to discuss issues in their neighbourhoods.

Town hall sessions will then get underway again the following week, beginning on April 11, inside the library at Takhini Elementary School for those living in Takhini, Whistle Bend, Range Point and on Swan and Crow Streets.

That will be followed the next evening (April 12) with a session for those in the downtown area and Marwell at the Frank Slim Building in Shipyards Park.

Finally, the town hall meetings will conclude on April 19 with a meeting for those in the areas of McLean Lake, Canyon Crescent, Mount Sima, Whitehorse Copper, McRae, Pineridge, Spruce Hill, Mary Lake, Fox Haven and Cowley Creek. The meeting will be held in the library of the Golden Horn Elementary School.

This marks the first set of town hall sessions since last June, and the third set of meetings since they began in 2013.

Previously, the gatherings were held over the course of a few months, with about one session per month focused on a specific area of town.

I think every one should turn out and mention the tax hikes.. every single year.. council after council.. they all say going in..we should live within our means..then they all get raises, mega expensive city managers.. and no one says..not one time.. what about the tax payer?
