A Porter Creek property owner could soon be approved for a development incentive worth up to $500,000 over a 10-year period.

As city planner Mike Ellis told council in a report at its meeting Monday evening, Jamie Milligan was recently issued a development permit to build four townhouse units at 1515 Dogwood St.

“This development meets the criteria for the major development incentive, and administration is bringing a Development Incentive Agreement forward approval,” Ellis said.

The development incentive policy was put in place to encourage various types of development in the city such as rental housing (as is the case here), mixed-use development and supportive housing.

Developments must meet certain criteria to receive the grant each year. The amount of the grant is based on the increase to property taxes as a result of the improvements on the land.

“The Development Agreement lists the total value and timeline of the major development incentive and specifies that the rental housing must be owned and operated by Mr. Milligan for a minimum of 10 years, or he will be required to repay the city for all grant money disbursed,” Ellis said.

“However, the agreement can be transferred in full to another owner with city approval, if the owner chooses to sell or transfer the property.”

Council will vote on whether to approve the agreement next week.

Get ready for yet another round of corporate welfare, as certain as getting wet in the rain naked.
Ya’ll may be happy...but I seriously think it is time to leave this completely engineered and entitled s**thole.
Our civic team is completely clueless.

Council seems to give away tax dollars so easily. They have given away the trails to noisy machines and the streets to dangerous drivers. Downtown seems to have been given away to drunks.

I will give my vote away to someone who is honest and wants to make a difference in the old school way.

We need a council that can control the purse strings in an efficient and fair manner.

Any taxpayer funded incentives should be for affordable apartment buildings. That's what's needed not more high profit luxury condos and town houses.

Where were the 'development incentives' to build apartments in WB when the government knew fully well there would be a housing shortage for new staff at the CCC?

Why do I have to pay for someone else's housing? This tax break is a direct subsidy which results in more profit for the developer. So tired of the wasted tax dollars.
