The Ta’an Kwäch’än Council government administration buildings have reopened following a security threat last week that prompted staff to stay home from work and offices to close.

In a news release sent out by the council yesterday, the incident was described as a “serious security issue.”

“The management of TKC considered the incident to be serious enough that staff should not be required to report to work until measures are put into place to ensure a safe work environment,” it stated, adding that the council implemented several security measures to ensure staff and visitor safety.

Shawn O’Dell, Ta’an Kwach’an Council’s executive director, could not be reached for comment by press time today.

Whitehorse RCMP Const. Dean Hoogland would only say that police responded to a report of a disturbance at the council buildings last Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.

“The investigation is ongoing,” he said this morning. “There’s not a whole lot of detail I can give you.”

He said no arrests had been made, and declined to say if police had any suspects.

“Our priority is to ensure we provide services to the citizens of Ta’an, but we also need to ensure our staff feel safe coming to work,” said Chief Kristina Kane in the release.

“I am confident that the excellent work the Management team has done to implement new security measures will ensure that balance between employee safety and providing services to citizens.”

Kane apologized for any inconvenience caused by the office closure.

This happened when? Sept 17 and when did the offices close? I understand the security issue but FN had to close for how long? Was this with pay? Overplayed or what?
