The Yukon coroner’s office has released photos of clothing found May 9 with human remains on the east side of Lake Laberge.

The body was recovered and an autopsy and forensic examinations have been undertaken.

The information is being released with a request for public assistance in identifying the unknown male.

He was about 35 years old, plus or minus five years.

His height was approximately 165cm and his estimated weight: 60 kg.

He was likely Caucasian, but the coroner’s office is not ruling out possible Asian origin.

There was a crowding of his lower teeth, with one tooth (upper left second premolar) extracted. It may have been visible at the corner of the mouth when the person smiled.

The clothing and personal items consisted of three long-sleeve shirts, size 12 Banana Republic tan pants with a 30-inch waist size, black “Fox” outer pants, three pairs of heavy wool socks, Thinsulate Dakota steel-toed work boots, CLC work gloves – camouflage on the back, with black palms, and a “SHIV” brand knife on belt with black meshed sheath.

“At this time, there is no way to conclusively know when this person died – either through my investigation and examination of the body or the forensic autopsy,” chief coroner Kirsten Macdonald said in a statement.

“Given that he was in the water a prolonged time, with the effects of cold water and ice – it is very difficult to determine a date of death.”

The clothing suggests the person was dressed warmly, she added.

“This circumstantial evidence may suggest it was end of summer or fall time,” Macdonald said.

“More information is required to conclusively determine a date of death. It is my hope that we will be able to find someone in the public who maybe knew this person, employed this person, saw him or talked to him before his death.”

Perhaps if he had an outstanding debt with the CoW or CRA, we would know who this person was.
