A Whitehorse woman is facing several charges after a hit-and-run incident last Friday in the downtown area.

Shortly after 11:15 a.m., Whitehorse RCMP and Yukon RCMP Traffic Services responded to the report of the collision involving a vehicle, construction equipment and a pedestrian.

Witnesses reported that a 1997 white Dodge Neon had struck a front-end loader at the road construction site on Alexander Street and Third Avenue, police said Monday.

The female car driver then struck a nearby pedestrian while leaving the scene of the initial collision.

Emergency Medical Services personnel transported a 55-year-old man to Whitehorse General Hospital for treatment of injuries.

Police located and arrested the driver a short time later in the downtown area.

Jennifer Blanche Wilson, 26, has been charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm, the failure to stop at the scene of accident, and the dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

The investigation is continuing.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call them at 667-5555.

Years of prison is the only rehab you deserve for doing this. if you think everything should just be forgiven and allowed then move to a 3rd world country.

Seriously folks, she made a big mistake by drinking and driving on a city street. That was not a smart thing to do,

The city is connecting trails so you can drive safely while impaired on toys in areas not used very often and there are reduced speed limits so the impact is likely very low.

I think they have studied all this and done a risk assessment that says there is no worries. Next time she should drive an ATV impaired, it's more socially acceptable.

Really!?! on Jun 6, 2018 at 1:31 pm

Stu, I will ignore your ridiculous comment as you are obviously delusional? It is only sad for the victim. No, do not waste money rehabilitating her. Throw the loser in jail as a lesson to all. Enough with the "kid gloves" from the courts for these disgusting drunk freak losers. This is happening far to often and it is damn well time the courts treat it like the serious offence that it really is! Hope the gentleman that was hurt will be ok.

No basic downtown police presence (i.e. coppers walking a beat)
No enforcement of standard traffic laws
(speeding / cell phone yapping / red light running / crosswalk crashing
- all rampant)
Sadly hit and run has also become a "norm" for Road Warrior City

It is inexcusable to injure someone.. but then leave them laying in the road.. I get it.. sometimes *hit happens.. but this driver did not even call 911 as she sped away.. no thought to the life she might have taken.. or would have saved.. She would have faced charges had she stayed, but they would have been nothing compared to what she is going to face now.

Where another person is injured is the worst kind of hit and run.. It is unfortunate that there are so darned many hits and run in town.. FB is full of "if you saw the *color* car that took out my bumpers in the Mall parking lot" or "did anyone witness the *color* SUV that t-boned my car while we were at the movies".. Really? This is what we have insurance for. It's getting so that everyone should have a dash cam now.. I got mine at Amazon, it's motion detector triggered. It cost me more to have it installed than the cost of the camera alone. I hope the gentleman will be ok and sues her sorry butt..and I hope Wilson gets the harshest penalty available under the law.

Twenty six, and driving impaired at 11 am in the morning.
As a lesson to others the punishment should be severe; the maximum provided by the law. People are growing tired of these scofflaws getting little more than a slap-on-the -wrist.

Well clearly has the Venus card for her court visit, royal flush with the culture card too? Please do keep us updated as the allegations against her percolate through those hallow halls of “justice” dearest star.
Hope the gentleman she ran over heals up without life changing consequences from crossing the path of an alleged drunken idiot...we have many of them.
Courts...do your magic, assure us out here that public safety is on your radar.
Many of us, I for one are wondering.
