Dawson is no longer under a boil water order, after it was lifted early Friday afternoon.

Pat Living, a Department of Health and Social Services spokeswoman, said this morning the advisory was lifted at around 12:50 p.m. Friday following testing that showed water coming from the two wells used by the community’s water system was free of any bacterial indicators.

The boil water order had been issued last Monday after a problem with the wastewater treatment plant caused sewage to back up into the decommissioned screening plant.

Residents, businesses and other institutions were advised to bring their water to a rolling boil for at least two minutes before using it.

Living noted that while the two wells used by the town had test results come back showing clean water, there was some E. coli and coliform found in water from the backup well.

“We’re going to be monitoring that,” she said, stressing the backup well is not used by the town.

Living went on to note the high level of co-operation Environmental Health officials had from municipal officials they worked closely with after the boil water order was issued.

The town continued to keep residents up to date via its website.

The most recent notice states the order has been “rescinded immediately,” and noted questions can be directed to Environmental Health.
