LONG SHOT – Delia Therriault practices in a hall in a shop in Whitehorse. Because of a lack of indoor practice facilities, the hall in the shop was used to achieve the necessary distance for practicing.
Yukon Archery Academy has great indoor season
According to head coach Warren Kapaniuk, the Yukon Aboriginal Sport Circle (YASC) Archery Academy and Team Yukon archery has had an incredible spring season.
According to head coach Warren Kapaniuk, the Yukon Aboriginal Sport Circle (YASC) Archery Academy and Team Yukon archery has had an incredible spring season.
They brought home four national indoor medals, swept the gold and scored silver and bronze at the 2024 Arctic Winter Games (AWG), and had an incredible showing at the B.C. Provincials.
The team also had three archers selected for the Canadian National Youth Team for this year. They will travel to El Salvador May 6-12 for the Youth and Masters Pan Am Championships.

It has been a busy last four weeks for Yukon archers. On March 2, archers competed in the Canadian Indoor Championship. The Indoor Nationals are held at regional centres, so the shooting range for the Yukon archers was in Whitehorse at Takhini Elementary School.
Shiori Monzo, Mya Wilson and Mikayla Therriault all won gold medals in their class, and Dawson Widney finished with a bronze medal. The next week, Team Yukon swept the gold medals at AWG 2024, with a silver and a bronze as well.
That’s a total of nine gold, one silver and two bronze in two competitions!
Easter weekend was another busy weekend with nine archers heading down to Maple Ridge for the B.C. Indoor Provincials. While Yukon archers aren’t eligible to win medals, some did finish at the top of their class. Daniel Mead, Mikayla Therriault, and Mya Wilson all finished in first place, Dom Watt and Finn Pearson finished second and Kael Epp finished just behind in third.
Also Easter weekend, Shiori Monzo, Delia Therriault and Emmett Kapaniuk all travelled to Brampton, Ont. for Team Canada Trials at the Peel archery centre. After two days of tight competition, all three were offered spots for the Youth and Masters Pan Am Championships in El Salvador.
Way to go all Yukon archers for making this the most successful spring season we have ever had.
