DAVID EARL HARDIE

March 7, 1937- April 18, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Dave Hardie announce his peaceful passing.

Dave was born in Trenton, Ontario to parents Charles and Florence Hardie. In 1949, Charles travelled to Vancouver, B.C. to take on a job as Construction Superintendent. Soon after, Charles moved the family to join him, and they settled in White Rock, B.C.

Dave completed his school years in White Rock, but travelled to the Yukon one summer with his parents to visit his brother, Bill, who was working construction in Haines Jct. Dave stayed in the Junction for the remainder of the summer before returning to B.C. to complete High School. Shortly after, he fell in love with Donna Green, and they married in September 1958. In 1960, when Donna was nearly full term with their first child, they moved to Yukon and settled in Whitehorse. Heather was born very soon after their arrival, followed by June in 1962.

Dave continued to work in construction and started Malamute Const. in 1964 with long time friend Mel Olson. The two of them developed a reputation as being among the best building contractors in Whitehorse at the time. Their company remained active until their retirement in 1998. Dave’s two sons-in-law, Joel and Brian, carried on the family tradition as Horizon Construction, and in turn, their sons, Scott and Jake, are now continuing with their own construction companies. Dave and Donna enjoyed many retirement years, spending summers at their cabin at Marsh lake.

Dave will be missed greatly by his wife of 65 years, Donna, his two daughters, Heather Hackney (Joel), June Schneider (Brian). Grandchildren; Scott Hackney (Lisa), Jess Boyd (Steven), Alisa Edmond (Justin), and Jake Schneider (Jessika). Dave also leaves behind 7 great-grandchildren, Levi, linden, Taya, Taron, Rylie, Maryn, and Oz. Dave was predeceased by his only brother, Bill Hardie.

The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses at WGH for their compassionate care during Dave’s short stay, particularly; Emily, Phillip, Shannon, Val, and Victoria.

At Dave’s request, there will be no service.
